I have yet to find an official release posted on Cunard sites, so will relay this news via Travel Today. There is also a story in the Sydney Telegraph/News.com today. This one will be one of the most sought after Australian cruises in 2012, and bound to sell out quickly.

Australia will welcome additional cruise ship capacity after Cunard announced that the Queen Mary 2 will embark on a 28-day circumnavigation of Australia in February 2012.

The deployment will be the longest in one country outside QM2’s northern hemisphere home ports of Southampton and New York.

Tickets for the “Royal Circumavigation of Australia” will go on sale in July, and are expected to be keenly sought after by not only Australians, but also international guests, said Ann Sherry, chief executive of Carnival Australia, which represents Cunard Line in Australia.

“This announcement is a signal that Cunard wants to capitalise on the growth in the Australian market,” Sherry said. “Australia is the fourth largest market for Cunard globally and Australia is the only place that will be getting this type of visit from the QM2. We have worked very hard with the itinerary planners globally to secure this cruise.”

The QM2 will call into eight Australian ports on the circumnavigation, including Sydney, Fremantle, Adelaide and the Whitsundays as well as maiden visits to Cairns (Yorkey’s Knob), Darwin, Melbourne and Brisbane. It will also stop in Bali.

Australians will be able to choose from three itineraries, a 20-night voyage departing Fremantle, a 22-night voyage departing Sydney, and a 21-night voyage departing Adelaide.

A website detailing the cruise will launch on Friday.

the thought of doing this cruise is enough to get me holding off booking one for 2011..as Karon said, i hope somebody is taking names...hurry up July to see if this can be a reality

I have just received an sms asking if I would like to put my name down on a pre registration list.... Only thing is I do not know what travel agent it is through...

If like other Cunard releases, their past cruisers will get a day ahead of everyone to book.

It will certainly be worth pre-registering with an agent so that the cruise can be booked immediately upon release, but if this sells out in less than a day as in the past, don't know if many agents want to be saddled with the responsibilty of having a list they can't fulfill - wouldn't want to think that it may be possible to be #20 on a list and missing out vs every person for themselves (ie - first on as list vs 1st to pysically book).

Unlike the Sydney to Auckland list, Cunard can't take pre-registrations, the difference being that the former is a waitlist for unsold cabins on a part cruise that is already being sold for the full journey.

Just heard on tens news that after doing the circumnavigation of oz in 2012 that the QM2 will be based permanently in oz. Don't think I believe that one. Maybe for the rest of 2012 but I doubt permanently.

That really doesn't seem right, but hey at the rate the gossip is spreading about ships moving around, who knows anymore :roll: It does seem a little far fetched that the QM2 will be based out of Oz to do the Noumea runs LOL! Unless they just send her out on Cherry Blossom runs. That'd be nice :D

Permanently for 28 days excepting for the detour to Bali.

Wonder what the pricing will be like, the QM2 is averaging about $6000p/p for around 28 nights, do they have quads? :crackup:
